#IceBucketChallenge: Do you think our celebrities have been fair enough in raising awareness on #Handwashing #Ebola, #Polio Meningitis, #Bad Governance, #Corruption etcetera in Nigeria? The recent weight and support thrown at the Ice bucket challenge, an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on one’s head or donating to the ALS Association in the United States leaves so much to be desired. It went viral throughout social media during the Northern Hemisphere summer of 2014. The action is aimed at raising money for research into ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a form of motor neurone disease) and in the UK to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Macmillan Cancer Support. After an icy soaking the participant then nominates two or three further people to undertake the challenge within 24 hours. Those who forfeit the challenge must donate a larger sum of money to a good cause. A popular Nollywood critic, Charles Novia is not a happy man because most Nigerian celebrities are suffering from second class mentality. He says on his twitter page I am sorry to say but our Nigerian Artistes are something else at times. The Ice bucket thing for ALS is a good example of their cootishness. The just want to trend on what foreign artistes do for a good cause. In Nigeria, they do it mostly for self-serving photo-ops. Sheesh! Im sure most Naija artistes pouring tepid water on themselves think ALS means another new version of an SUV from the look of their pics. Disease wey dey kill una people for here na EVD. Una nor take picture with sanitiser or showing that una dey wash hands to spread awareness. Really! Must you do it because its trending? If you must follow the USA lead then come together for Ebola. Dove tail on that. Enough of this second class mentality. Dont do it cos Dre or Beyonce did it It will be recalled that Don Jazzy, Genevieve, Inyanya, Peter Okoye, Iyanya have taken part in the Ice Bucket challenge. Extract from Vanguard
