If only it had happened (#1) imagine if .... Swansea Council - TopicsExpress

If only it had happened (#1) imagine if .... Swansea Council in a mode of thinking for the future, have decided that with the demise of the Train traffic along the foreshore, ... from the London Midland & Scottish freight and Great Western passenger line, and capitalising on the historical significance of the Mumbles Train, to invest for your future. Looking towards that future, the Council have envisioned a time when people will want to travel along the foreshore for leisure, and will actively encourage the tourists to come visit in droves. A council spokesperson quoted It would be such a shame to lose all this railway heritage, and such a glorious opportunity. They have decided to run a monorail from Swansea harbour along the existing route using some of the existing stops & infrastructure at St.Helens (The slip), Brynmill, Blackpill, West Croos, Oystermouth terminating at Mumbles, and adding in a new stop to serve the new University. Having looked at options they consider a Monorail is ideal ... the train cars are up in the air, allowing a full promenade below, and no obstruction to walkers, cyclists etc, and provides a way to move people between the Harbour & Mumbles with no hindrance to road traffic. This is very much seen as a practical mode of transport between Swansea & Mumbles, and particularly useful in getting students to & from the university without the need of cars or buses. The spokesman added by investing now, we will reap the benefits in the future, we need tourism, and people will come here just to ride this, and once here they will stay & spend their money in Swansea. The future - it could be in Swansea.
