If you did not get a chance to see the Journalism After Snowden: A Lecture by David A. Schulz, check out the talk on YouTube. The recent ruling rejecting any privilege for New York Times reporter James Risen to protect his confidential sources should be a wake up call for anyone concerned about the state of investigative journalism in America. This discussion will review the current state of the reporters’ privilege, reflect on whether the Obama administration really is “worse than Nixon” for reporters, and explore potential options for salvaging meaningful legal protections for the confidential communications of reporters and their sources. Mr. Schulz heads the New York office of Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz, LLP, where he represents media organizations and journalists in their news-gathering, content and related litigation. Among other significant access matters, he has argued precedent-setting cases establishing the constitutional right of access to jury selection procedures, pre-trial motions, and court dockets, and prevailed in compelling the release of information about detainees at Guantanamo Bay and the military service records of President George W. Bush. Mr. Schulz is the Floyd Abrams Visiting Clinical Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School, where he serves as co-director of the Media Freedom and Information Access Clinic. https://youtube/watch?v=VxH0xbWUKVk&list=UUPp3kphcqRzqHNmFUlqgYvw
