If you pay attention, youve seen me talking about Sturgill Simpson - TopicsExpress

If you pay attention, youve seen me talking about Sturgill Simpson going on 2 years now. This unknown from KY I heard randomly on Outlaw Country way back then, put out an independent record that climbed all the way to #11 on the Billboard Charts earlier this year. That...is simply not done...especially in the age of careful, consolidated and manipulative artist control by the majors. We hear what they tell us well hear. Sturgill disagrees. Well now, hes being called the next Waylon, Merle or whatever legend tag you can put on him. Who knows where his career will go, but Im a huge fan of his songwriting. Hes interesting to me, because he swears off all religion, but hes deeply spiritual in almost everything he writes. His first single off that record was a song called, Turtles all the way Down, which plays off the abstract belief that we are all just a tiny speck on the back of a giant cosmic turtle flying through the universe. Most songs he writes display a deep spiritual yearning, or an awareness of destructive sin. This one falls under the latter category, paying ode to the comfort sin brings, which of course the competent conscious would know, is the very trap laid for us to be comfortably swallowed up by into the abyss. I dig Sturgill Simpson a lot. Heres a recent performance on Letterman... a gig he could have only dreamed of a year ago, performing that song. https://youtube/watch?v=_70HJMikcBo
