If youre into science, technology or adventure, come to the Dairy Center, April 1, 7:00pm During ongoing environmental research in the Peruvian Andes, we may have discovered a lost temple, and with it, the means to protect one of the world’s natural treasures. Lying at 16,000ft in the Cordillera Vilcanota range of Peru, Laguna Sibinacocha is the largest high-alpine lake in South America. The Sibinacocha watershed is an extreme environment by any standard, yet it contains stunning natural beauty and a remarkable array of wildlife, most of it yet to be studied. Sadly, illegal mining has advanced to within a mile of the watershed, but our discovery may have provided the means to protect the area. Archeologists believe that we have discovered an important pre-Incan ceremonial site, and perhaps even the lost temple of Auzancata itself. Please join Preston Sowell, Wetherbee Dorshow, Chris Mathias and The GIS Institute (thegisinstitute.org) for a presentation about recent expeditions conducted to prove the existence of this lost ceremonial site and protect its sacred landscape.
