Im a mess. The last couple months, weve had a lot going on in my family. And Ive worked hard to be strong for my people. And God graciously answered my prayers by giving me strength. But two days ago I felt like I really blew it. Emily and I were talking about wedding stuff (only 25 days away...) and I went all crazy mama. Like I used to when the kids were little and I was tired and wanted order and space and quiet. We were in the middle of a tense conversation about the wedding and I just stood up and said: Im going on a drive. Then I grabbed my keys and headed out the door. I didnt even know where I was headed. First I went to the gas station, filled up the car and went through the car wash. Then I drove through Dunkin Donuts and got K-cups. After that, I went to La Madeleine and got soup and salad to go. Then to Nordstrom Rack. (I know, I know.) When I finally got home all tired and hungry, I let myself in the house and sat down to eat my soup and salad. I didnt slink into the house. And I didnt hide in the house. Because, you know, home is home. And I knew when I went inside, Emily would still be there. And shed still love me - crazy mama and all. Thats family, yes? The people who love you regardless. The people who welcome you in even when youre messy and crazy. God love them. I hope you have a boatload of people like that in your life. Who really see you and love you and dont care if you have a little bit of crazy mama inside that lurches out on occasion. And I hope you know that God is like home. You dont need to slink into his presence. And you dont need to hide from him. As precious and grace-full as my Emily is to me, God is even better. If youre as messy as me ~ Im praying home for you today, friend.
