Im frankly surprised at some of the tributes to Robin Williams Im seeing tonight, and I think they do him a disservice. Robin Williams was not an under-appreciated genius. You cant speak of him as if he was some underground hero known only to a devoted few. He was a brilliant performer lionized for his work across several genres for the majority of his life. He won multiple awards, and world-wide acclaim. When his genius was too big for the constraints of any traditional television or comedic format, they build a new one around his talent. He was one of the lucky few who actually KNEW the powerful and positive effect he had on millions of people. While he had difficulties in his home life (as do we all), he had family and a wide circle of friends who loved him. And none of it was enough to overpower his illness. It ended him. And thats the true tragedy.
