Im having trouble understanding something, perhaps someone can - TopicsExpress

Im having trouble understanding something, perhaps someone can help? Ive heard people say that proposed voter registration laws, such as a requirement for registered voters to provide some form of identification before casting their ballot, are somehow aimed at curbing the voting power of black people. Am I missing something? How are black people, or any other minority, disproportionately affected by that? Im from Chicago, and we have a saying: Vote early and vote often. Voter fraud runs rampant: people have been known to make multiple trips to the polling place and stuff the ballot boxes, and there have even been instances of dead people voting (those who have died but their registration is still on the books, and fraudsters casting votes in their name). To me, checking in at the polling place with photo I.D., and having your name entered onto a list of those who have voted (but without a record of how you voted to maintain secrecy) seems like a great way to curb these kinds of election fraud. But I fail to see the racial component. Can someone explain that to me?
