Im heartbroken to hear of the passing of the brilliant musician, my great friend and laughing buddy, Dave Ratajczak. We spent a lot of time together in NY doing club dates, playing and recording with Paula Lockheart, and just hanging out, jamming, cooking, etc. He loved my pork shoulder, which we called cripsy pig. One time we were on a big party gig at the Armory that had a Moroccan theme, and all the guests got fezzes. Shameless pilferer that I am, I copped us a couple. Sitting in the car about to head home to Brooklyn, we tried them on. The smile that came over Daves face as he slid the fez onto his head is burned into my brain, and Im so glad. The last time I saw him was several years ago when we played together at Ravinia with, I think, Michael Feinstein (it could have been Bernadette Peters), and we had dinner and shared family stories. God, I am going to miss you, my dear friend. Thanks for everything.
