In 2008, we began a restoration project on an old Charleston fire - TopicsExpress

In 2008, we began a restoration project on an old Charleston fire truck, Engine 11, a 1961 Mack. Our Team purchased it from Stoney Blanton out in Colleton County. Stoney had bought it from CFD surplus when it was retired in 1991. We wanted a project to honor the Charleston 9 and as a means to join their legacies with the past and future firefighters of the CFD. So, the “Raising Engine 11” project was born. Many people came together to help us with the restoration that took eight months to complete. Engine 11 may have provided some of its best years since 2008 for, as our flagship, it has been a part of so many events and special times in our lives. In 2011, we celebrated Engine 11’s 50th “birthday” to honor its service to the CFD, to the memory of the 9, and to the Charleston community. Tonight, I received an email from CFD Firefighter K.J. Pringle with the following video done in 2011 as part of the observance of those 50 years. He found it on the internet and quite frankly, it had been filed away in our archives for some time. There are so many stories that can be told from events shown in this video and those can be shared later along the way as we move forward in our mission. We simply hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed the events depicted. Thanks K.J., for reminding us of special times in the history of our Team.
