In Yesterdays News: Get in touch with your spiritual side at annual Psychic Fair Eryn Dion News Staff Writer #TEMPLETON — Those looking to dabble in the paranormal and connect with their more spiritual side will find ample opportunity during the upcoming Psychic Fair at The Church in The Wyldewood on Saturday, Aug. 9. The fair, according to the Rev. Bob Eddy, is a church staple and features a lineup of psychics, mediums, Tarot readers, spiritual healers, and aura photography. “We’ve been doing this for years and years,” he said. The event always comes with community excitement and draws a crowd from the Greater Gardner area, Rev. Eddy said, although groups from as far away as Webster have driven in for the chance to have their aura read or to experience a spiritual healing session. While psychics and spiritual healers may seem out of place at a church for some, as a Spiritualist Church, a connection to the spiritual world is seen as fundamental among the congregation. “Spiritualism is based on the existence of the hereafter and the ability to contact it,” explained Rev. Eddy. “It’s one of the basic tenants of the church.” Although their ministers are all certified psychic/mediums, most aspects of a typical church service, he noted, will closely resemble a Protestant sermon save for a few otherworldly appeals. “We are a Spiritualist Church that leans towards Christianity,” said Rev. Eddy. The sermon opens with a hands-on spiritual healing service, where the minister and members of the congregation channel healing energy for those in the audience in need of aid. The results from the wash of positive energy, Rev. Eddy said, are often surprising, even for skeptics. “People who are there have had some remarkable recoveries happen,” he commented. The service rounds out with the ministers connecting with members of the audience to channel spirits and deliver messages from loved ones who have passed on. The experience, Rev. Eddy explained, is geared toward healing and comfort for everyone involved. For those not familiar with the Spiritualist Church and its methods but are looking for something new, Rev. Eddy welcomes them to come sit in on a service to get a feel for the proceedings. “I was a Spiritualist my whole life and didn’t know it until I joined the church,” Rev. Eddy said. The Psychic Fair is open to all ages and will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, which is located at 214 Shady Lane in Templeton, near the Hubbardston line. While admission is free, Rev. Eddy asks for a $20 donation to the church for readings and aura photography.
