In a time when social media and the internet become a unique insight into the facts and figures of events, it is hard not to feel overly emotional in the face of tonights verdict. Be it for or against that conclusion, the overly obvious observation that so many Americans have on their lips is injustice. This is an audacious truth that has been downplayed over the course of many years. We have heard the claims of racial equality since its “birth” many centuries ago. The question being asked tonight is how realistic are these equalities? There are massive riots that are currently taking place in Ferguson, and with that I fear that we are only hurting the effort that we so long for. The effort of reform and realistic standards are not decided based on the color of an individuals skin, but rather by the overwhelming scream for justice voiced from the belly of an angry beast. Americans are furious tonight. I was not on the jury who reviewed the evidence, and so I have not credibility in the claim of a just decisions. I do however, have the ability to utilize my first amendment right to speak on the issue of injustice towards those who are not predominantly white. Now is the time for change, and we have the power to produce a battlecry that can be heard by the leaders in Washington. These are the facts ladies and gentlemen: the issue of racial inequality is not based on skin color, nor on religious beliefs, or political affiliation. Because the only conclusion that can be made tonight is that this American issue is one that merits a bigger and broader conversation about change. You have opinions and insights and we want to listen. We all have something to offer, and we all want change to occur. Please join us for an in-depth conversation open to everyone this Wednesday from 8:30am until noon at CSU’s Morgan Library.
