In light of the much higher than usual DNF rate, I wanted to say - TopicsExpress

In light of the much higher than usual DNF rate, I wanted to say Im so very amazed and impressed with EVERY athlete that started the race yesterday. Whether you finished or not, you toughed out a seriously difficult day. We all know the training thats done when nobody is there supporting and cheering you is what makes you an incredible athlete. Race day is your parade and day to shine. When your parade is cut short it really stings, but remember how tough and strong you were during all those months of training leading up to race day, and celebrate yourself for arriving to the race ready to compete. Some days your body, or the weather, has other plans in mind. It truly broke heart every time I removed a chip from one of our full athletes in transition and had to turn it in (I was only in the full area, but I know its equally painful for our 70.3 athletes). I have been there before in a 140.6...and I know how much it hurts to have that chip removed. As endurance athletes we tend to downplay the incredible things we are able to accomplish in these bodies weve been gifted (how many times do we hear Im only doing the half, or the aquabike etc.etc). Remember to celebrate the gift of a body that takes you to places you never thought you could go, and helps you push beyond physical and mental limits you didnt even know you had. Be proud of your race, no matter how it turned out. We (staff, volunteers, spectators and family) are more proud of you than you can imagine. Congrats Redman athletes!!
