In many countries, pedestrians and cyclists are given more attention and the road infrastructure is becoming more and more friendly to them. One classic example is the pedestrian/cycle underpass on roads whereby a slope is created on which motorized vehicles drive by whereas the pedestrians and cyclists/2 wheelers cross the road on the same level. In India, foot over bridges for pedestrians, skywalks and other such road crossing facilities simply fail because they tend to punish or make the already-tired pedestrians work harder to cross a road while making it easy for motorized vehicles. This is such a simple concept that our urban planners (!!) dont understand, sadly.
