In my advocacy work I have heard some heartbreaking stories of families living in constant fear their children, husbands, wives will be snatched away because a family members paperwork is not in order. Ive heard college kids say they cant enroll in college because of Georgias strict policy banning undocumented students from going to school. The Freedom School right here in GA was formed because educators thought it a travesty smart, eager, young immigrants missing a piece of paper could get so far and run into the wall of education denied. The Freedom school cannot issue college degrees though. Immigration in America is broken. Echoes of Jim Crow swirl around the current practices that leave no avenue to obtaining the documents nor a path to citizenship for people who just want a better life for their children. I met a mother of 4 whose children were born in America, she has been here 10 years living in the shadows, working 2 jobs to support her kids and a routine traffic stop can tear their family apart. Her children no know other country but America. Thank you President Obama for addressing this devastating situation last night. To your critics I say pass a bill, be part of the solution or stop fear mongering. Criminalization of any group for their mere existence is not who we are. vimeo/53597893
