Date: 10th June 2013 Dr.Desikamani PT, mailed the following Dear Fellow Physios Pls find the attachment the News published in “The Hindu” dated 9 th June 2013 regarding formation of Tamilnadu State Physiotherapy Council in two months time. From yesterday onwards I am getting continuous Phone calls inquiring about this State PT council (Govt Order issued during 2008) and expressing their apprehensions about independence in Physiotherapy Practice after constituting this State Council. To clear the doubts and understanding regarding this Council, I would like to inform you all that, there was an Amendment order dated 09.09.2009 issued correcting the contents of the prior Govt Order Issued during 2008. AS per the amendment order Physiotherapy is c) “Physiotherapy” means health care profession which includes examination, treatment, advice and instructions to any person preparatory to or for the purpose of or in connection with movement dysfunction, bodily malfunction, physical disorder, disability, healing and pain from trauma and disease, physical and mental conditions using physical agents including exercise, mobilization, manipulation, mechanical and electrotherapy, activity and devices or diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Hence we are health professionals and we can diagnose, prevent, plan and execute therapy. The objections to the amendment GO was about using the title “Dr” which is not within the purview of any Council. In the other hand we should thank Honourable Chief Minister and Honourable Health Minister and the State Health Authorities for constituting the State Physiotherapy Council which is pending for more than 40 years. Please do not panic and get worried about the future of Physiotherapists. We the seniors Physiotherapists, “The Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP) Local Branch” and Tamilnadu State Government Physiotherapists Association (TNGPA) will not let down the independence of Physiotherapists and will not tolerate and let any damage occur to our Profession. But we do not believe in Emotional approach on any issue. We are following the situation and we will post you the developments time to time. Dr.B.S.Desikamani (PT) Email: desikamanipt@hotmail Please circulate this to all our/your Physiotherapy Friends
