In order to accommodate the extended holiday mailing rush, three Oahu Post Offices will once again be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 21. The airport post office, Ala Moana post office and Mililani post office, which have been open the past two Sundays, will once again open their doors to serve the seasonal increase in holiday customers. This weekend is expected to be extremely busy at all post offices as customers rush to send out their Christmas cards, letters and packages. “This year we’re expecting a 30 percent growth in our package business,” said operations support specialist Daniel Hirai. “E-commerce and the economy is just booming, and we’re getting a lot of packages coming in.” “It’s a crazy, busy time, but it’s our moment, our season, our final four, our Super Bowl, all rolled up into one,” said corporations communications specialist Duke Gonzales. This Friday, Dec. 19, is the suggested mailing date for First Class and Priority Mail to the mainland. Procrastinators have until Saturday, Dec. 20, to send their holiday cheer to the mainland via U.S. Postal Service’s Priority Express shipping service. The Waialae-Kahala and Mililani post offices will feature extended weekday retail hours through Dec. 19. During that time frame, those offices will be open until 7 p.m. Waialae-Kahala normally closes at 4:30 p.m. and Mililani at 5 p.m. Rudolph’s Express Shipping Shack at the airport post office is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Dec. 19, serving customers mailing three domestic items or less and/or purchasing Forever stamps. The airport post office is also featuring a drive-by station in its parking lot for customers to drop off prepaid packages and mail. Customers who prepay and print out their postage at USPS will be able to drive up and drop off their packages to postal employees at the tent without getting out of their cars, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Dec. 19. The Honolulu mail processing facility has been averaging processing 1.9 million pieces of mail daily since Thanksgiving, including more than 155,000 packages. The package volume is up 20 percent over last year’s holiday season
