In the early 1980s Jim Henson and I went to a horse auction at the 2J Ranch in Iowa Park, TX (home of Yellow Mount, one of the most famous Paint horses ever, and yes I did meet him). As I was walking around among all the high rollers, I heard a voice that sent chills down my spine. Could it possibly be? No one else has a voice like that. I looked over and yes, it was him. One of the loves of my life, Dale Robertson, was standing right in front of me! We walked over and talked to him. I told him how much I had loved his horse Jubilee and he just smiled. It was amazing. In August 2012, I went to the horse auction at Emerald Downs near Seattle. I was early and no one was there but the attendants in the horse ring. I started talking to one of them and told him about my experience meeting Dale Robertson 20 years before He laughed and said Oh Dale, of course! Hes a good friend of mine, he was here last year. He was going to come this year but hes under the weather. Then he said, If you mentioned Jubilee to him, you will always have a place in his heart. How he loved that horse. Dale Robertson died about 6 months later, a year ago today. Rest In Peace Dale, I know you are riding Jubilee in his silver tack across those wide open prairies.
