In this issue: * Your Mentors: * Saturday Program, Miles and Route * Extras!: Road ID sale code * Tips and Tricks: Submit your questions Your Mentors: ...it is Temescal time (for real)! It is time for the official official planned Temescal run! Many of you have had the opportunity to run Temescal (or reverse Temescal) and are a bit experienced. For others, this will be your first big hill run. Some pointers: 1) Enjoy the flat warm up run along the beach path. Dont push for a faster speed because you are feeling fresh and full of energy, you will want that energy going up the hill! 2) Running up the hill, try to keep your speed as consistent as possible** and take the walk breaks at the chime. You arent proving anything to anyone speeding uphill or skipping breaks. (**consistent may mean that you slow down a little from the 13 pace.) 3) Slow down if you need to! We will gather at the top of the hill and hopefully collect everyone coming from behind. If you need to drop back to the 13.5 or 14 running groups this week, that is okay. You dont need to push the hill run. 4) Watch for cars. Collapse to single file quickly! Along Sunset we will automatically collapse single file. While running through the neighborhoods, if you see a car coming, collapse single file even if you are not yet told. Some cars travel quickly and come up without much notice. If we are all alert and responsive, it will be easier. 5) Have fun! It is not an easy run, but Temescal will most likely become one of your favorite runs. Have fun and enjoy the challenge and scenery! This years Lucky 13 mentors are... Jennifer J. (JJ) - Head mentor Linda D. (Hot Wing) Blanca A. Eileen H. Jennifer F. (Spiritual Guide and President of the Club this season) This Saturday Program, Miles and Route: 6:45 AM Speaker Program: Nutrition. You may be a runner, but that doesnt actually mean you can eat anything you want, (as much as we want to believe it to be true). Come learn about getting the most out of your calorie choices. 7:30 AM Run: 9.1 miles: TEMESCAL!!!!! Half marathoners, you can decide your distance. A few turn around options are below (all options are N+S with the group start) * 9 miles with the group: Run with the group! * 7 miles: Turn back at the base of Temescal and run back along the Beach path (it is actually a little less than 7 miles) AID STATIONS: At the top of Temescal! We need to give you a reason to get to the top of the hill. :) Thank you to the 17 Walkers for hosting. PLEASE STAY ON THE SIDEWALK AT THE AID STATION. We dont want any runners getting taken out by cars turning the corners too quickly. Be sure to take your water belt and any fuel you will need. PLEASE DISPOSE OF TRASH IN AVAILABLE BINS. We passed a lot of discarded gu/gel packs in the streets on the 18 miler, which is disappointing. Let the 13s continue to be a good example by NOT adding to the litter. Thank you! Help us to take care of 1450 Ocean, We love using the facilities at 1450 Ocean and want to remain good residents. When using the facility, be mindful of tracking in dirt and mud, and take good care of the restrooms. Wipe down excess water, put trash in the appropriate receptacles, etc. Thank you for your help!
