Independent Senator for Tasmania Jacqui Lambie, has been forced to edit and change a YouTube video after Women’s Weekly Magazine threatened legal action. The Senator’s YouTube is designed to use the QLD election to put pressure on the Abbott Government to deliver a fair pay rise to members of the Australian Defence Force. Corporate Counsel acting for the Women’s Weekly magazine gave Senator Lambie a deadline of 12pm on 21st of January to remove images of the Senator used in her video, which were also published in the January edition of their magazine. “I’m very shocked and disappointed by the way the Women’s Weekly magazine has managed this matter. I agreed to an exclusive interview with the magazine without asking for a fee or donation to a Tasmanian charity on the condition that I was allowed use of a couple of images for my newsletter and website. Recently, I wrote to the Women’s Weekly seeking information as to when I was able to receive those photos from the magazine publisher. A crucial Email from my office was ignored and not replied to in writing. Some phone calls were made to my office from the magazine management but, given their reluctance to honour our verbal agreement, I demanded to see the Women’s Weekly final position in writing.” said Senator Lambie. “That position was put to me yesterday when an incomplete letter threatening legal action against me was emailed to my staff. I replied in writing, expressing my shock and disappointment to the management of the Women’s Weekly. Today I’ve met their request and legal directions. I’ve removed their photos from my YouTube clip and replaced them with photos I hold copyright over, however I’m taking advice to see if their threats have interfered with my free and fair performance as a member of the Senate – and are therefore a contempt of parliament. The bottom line is - this has been an unwelcome distraction from the very important issue of a fair pay rise for our Diggers. I would have thought that Womens Weekly would have done every thing in the powers to help me advocate for a fair pay rise for or Diggers. After all this is beyond politics. The national president of the Australian RSL has come out supporting my position for an increased pay rise for our Defence families.” said Senator Lambie. https://youtube/watch?v=VVxiIJSEBKs
