Introduction Thread This is a place to disclose your starting points of bias and share your relevant experience with a variety of environmental issues. You can also indicate subjects you are very interested in but dont know much about. This thread is *not* a place to debate issues. My preference is that everyone posts one intro and no further comments. If someone writes something here that you feel compels a response, please check the list of dedicated threads and copy their quote over and tag the person there (indicating it is from Intro thread). As a last resort if an entirely new claim arises that cant fit to an existing thread, start a new one. Over time this thread will grow large (there are 228 members here already). It will become increasingly difficult to read and know everyones position. Any further discussion added in will make that task impossible. Almost all of us have biases and theres no shame in that. Its part of being human. While we aim for evidence-based inquiry on important issues, emotions are ultimately the guide that directs reason. Reason without emotion is useless. Reason cant even tell us to prefer a living planet over a cold lifeless rock (you have an emotional attachment to being alive and that attachment keeps you alive!) Reason alone cant even tell us we should value reason. Im glad we have a diversity of opinion here. I dont want everyone to adopt my bias because then I lose the benefit of criticism that reveals my weakness. I dont want to convert my ideological opponents so much as learn from them. Ill post up my intro shortly. Im aiming for the shortest and most concise explanation of my stance today with a very brief narrative of my history. Mine clocks in just under 500 words, which is probably too long.
