Is the Evil Eye a reality according to the Quran? Quite a few - TopicsExpress

Is the Evil Eye a reality according to the Quran? Quite a few people have adviced me that I should abstain from uploading photos of my baby daughter here on fb, and some have even rebuked me - apparently she is susceptible to falling prey to the evil eye! By which they imply that if a person possesses the evil eye then the person can envy someone to the point that some harm can afflict them - just imagine being accused of being the causing effect of the evil eye. Personally this notion is nothing more than a superstitious absurdity. As far as I can grasp, the Quran does not instruct a religion of superstitions. In-fact, superstitions are as old as mankind itself; fear of the unknown and inability to control or predict our own destiny has led mankind to all kinds of irrational and superstitious faith. Though I am fully aware that even though the Hadith literatures censures superstitions generally, the belief in the evil eye is made an exception; there are even suggested cures. The Quran however, does not comprise of similar discrepancies. Moreover, I fundamentally reject and discredit the interpretation that verse 68:51 alludes to and validates the evil eye. This opinion is completely preposterous to even a simple reading of the verses.
