It being World Alzheimers month, I thought some of you who may be - TopicsExpress

It being World Alzheimers month, I thought some of you who may be dealing with a loved one in the early stages would like a little advice (Im not a health professional, this is just what weve been through). Here is how we stopped my Dad from driving: He was on quite a bit of medication at the time. We told him the doctor didnt want him driving since the medication would make him too drowsy. He stopped driving cold turkey, and was actually relieved to become a passenger instead (he was never a good driver and he knew it. When teaching me, he kept saying Do what I say, not what I do. Lol). Another tip: get them tested as soon as you notice the signs, since they may benefit from Aricept or its generic counterpart, Donepezil (expensive, but the govt covers most of the bill). It has worked wonders for my Dad, and I consider it to be the main reason he is still at home and functioning well after all these years (Some people do find it impossible to digest. We know someone close to us who couldnt take it and their situation deteriorated very rapidly). If you have any questions, dont hesitate. Its a tough disease to deal with and no one should go through it without help
