“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live” (J.K. Rowling, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” p. 157). Dreams are important to help us set our course, influence our daily decisions, and lift our spirits toward the hope of becoming the person necessary to achieve our dreams. However, if we focus all of our attention and energy on the distant dream, and “forget to live” in our own present, we will have lost the beauty of our lives from this moment, to the moment we achieve our dream. It is tempting to want to fast forward at times, skip through the journey and get to the reward. The daily grind that is necessary to move forward toward our goal can seem daunting, cyclic, monotonous, tedious, and at times endless; yet it is a price that must be paid to move toward our future self, toward our accomplishment, and toward our goal. What an absolutely travesty it would be to waste all the precious moments that can be claimed while trudging through the necessary. Embrace each happiness that can be claimed, cherish the moments shared with those whom we love, even if they are fleeting moments squeezed in between necessary responsibilities; and never “forget to live.” Stay the Course.
