It never used to matter to me, but a persons upbringing says a lot. It isnt necessarily literal. A gambler of a father doesnt mean the daughter becomes one too. Its the values that get passed down. And the impact of such values. A mother who places such emphasis on designer wear that leads to a son who name drops everywhere he goes. A father who thinks the world of himself and a daughter who needs the validation of others to justify her worth. We are our parents, whether we like it or not. My dads violent temper and perhaps an ounce of his irrational loyalty. My mums sharp tongue and protective nature for her family. The keyboards I have ruined. The hole in the wall. The pain of betrayal from being too loyal. The words I sometimes regret. My unfortunate lack of empathy. Values of my parents, in me. Whether I like it or not.
