It was a Friday night this night 6 years ago. Jeffrey & I spent the night in the den. Brian gave up & went upstairs to bed. I was in my recliner. Jeffrey was on the sofa. We watched Red Eye, and I said, This is a really silly show, Jeff. And he said, Yeah, Mom, but its kind of funny. I heard him hit his morphine pump every 10 minutes ~ the override time. Every time I heard that beep, my heart sank just a bit more. He was in pain. There was nothing, just nothing, I could do. He was thirsty. He kept asking me for milk. Each time, he said, Im so sorry Mom. And I said, My sweetheart, dont be sorry. Dont you know there is nothing I wouldnt do for you or your brothers? He just said, I know, Mom. The next morning, he couldnt get up. We called hospice, and they took him by ambulance to in-patient care. I remember emailing my friends Susan Haynes & Leeann Denham from the ambulance, telling them that If I had to guess, I think that Jeffreys struggle with this wretched disease will soon end.
