Its been almost a year now since we built a rescue partnership with the Humane Society of Indianapolis in their efforts to end euthanasia in the Indianapolis area.... We have worked with them a few times... Sometimes we just pull dogs from them to help them and their chances of making it out.... Other times we trade dogs for better opportunities for them all... ZuLu pictured here, is one of those dogs.... We pulled Zulu in 2013 from Jasper County Animal Control as her fate was dark and slim.... :-( She was young, all puppy, a lover, and caring.... But she was a pittie mix..... We have found that being a foster based rescue has its advantages and also its disadvantages.... Our animals being in foster homes, opens them up from the life they lived in the shelter environment, being scared and timid to loving and outgoing.... We are able to work with them on individual levels, basic training, bad habits, etc... But mostly we ARE able to answer the most asked questions that potential adopters ask.... Are they house broken?? Are they good with kids?? Are they good with other dogs?? Are they good with cats?? Are they crate trained?? It is difficult to answer these questions when they are beyond the walls in a kennel at the shelter..... But in a foster home we have the opportunity to learn these things about them and work with them.. On the other hand being foster based sometimes makes it hard for us to find homes for our babies.... We use facebook (ALOT), our website, Rescueme, Petfinder, and Adopt A Pet to list our available babies for adoption in search of finding their forever homes... But the truth is not everyone uses the internet still and some that do dont know where to look or what to search.... :-( Not having a facility with open hours of operations for potential adopters to come walk through and see our kiddos gives them less opportunity of finding that family of their very own.... This is more the reason why we do so many adoption events... To get our babies out their for the public eyes to see and the hands to touch... For them to be exposed to potential adopters... But ZuLu here was such a hyper girl and got so excited being out in the public that most adopters turned away... She would bark and jump, all the things a young excited girl would be expected to do... But then when she barked, people would think, I dont want a dog thats just going to bark Not giving her the benefit of the doubt and understanding her for who she was..... But then it also turned potential adopters away from other babies we had with us available for adoption as well.... So we talked to HSI about helping us with ZuLu... We traded them a dog for a dog... We pulled a dog from their euthanasia list and they accepted ZuLu as a no euthanasia rescue dog.... What these means is that 2 dogs were still being saved and both better opportunities.... Zulu was with HSI for a few months and was finally adopted last week!!!!!!! Here you see her with her 2 legged siblings so happy and comfortable, living the life she always deserved.... And all thanks to the Humane Society of Indianapolis for understanding and seeing what we seen in her.... A wonderful dog, a beautiful girl, a potential best friend in the making..... She just needed better exposure than what we were capable of giving her...... Congratulations ZuLu on finding your forever family and place to call home.... Thank you adoptive family for opening your arms, heart, and home to a baby girl that deserves the very best... And thank you HSI for the wonderful job you guys are doing on finding perfect homes and making Indianapolis a No Kill city to the best of your ability.... We cant wait for our next journey with you!
