Its stewardship season at most churches and this article is especially relevant to the topic. Apparently only 3% of Americans give away 10% or more of their income and only 14% give away more than 2%. The article argues that our lives are significantly enhanced by acts of generosity and as a result most of us are missing out. Nancy and I were arguing yesterday about how much we should give to various organizations. I objected to her making an unexpected donation. I explained to her that we had already given away well over 10% of our income for the year. I think my exact quote was, This is getting kind of ridiculous. We both laughed - knowing that it may be a bit ridiculous but its one of the best ways weve found to express gratitude for what we have. Weve found the claims of the article to be true. Our lives have been greatly enhanced by giving generously. With the end of the year coming its a good time to think about giving. If youre looking for ideas on where to give, Plant With Purpose is my favorite global non-profit. PWP works with the rural poor in Mexico, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Tanzania, Burundi, Thailand, and will soon be expanding to more countries. https://plantwithpurpose.org/ Or how about the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Id probably be dead today if it werent for organizations like that working tirelessly to find cures for cancer. lls.org/ Other recommendations include Fuller Theological Seminary or Whitworth University. I also know for a fact that your local neighborhood church could use the money and they would use it well. No non-profit organization knows how to make money go further than the local church. Heres to a season of generosity and sharing.
