Ive always hated #fashionfails pages and featuring a regular - TopicsExpress

Ive always hated #fashionfails pages and featuring a regular person because she looks bad, and this is the perfect example why magazines shouldnt do it. A few weeks ago SELF Magazine emailed #MonikaAllen to ask her if they could feature a picture of her running the marathon. She was obviously really excited... until she saw the magazine, who mocked her for wearing a tutu, saying it was lame in their #BSMeter! What they didnt know (or bother asking) is that Monika was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and ran the marathon while in chemotherapy. If they had just taken the time to look at the picture closely, they would have noticed that the girl running next to Monika has Die Tumor Die written on her bib. The lame tutu she was wearing is a product she sells through her company Glam Runner, to make running more fun and help raise money for #GirlsontheRun (that encourages young girls to be active). As a cancer survivor, fashion & beauty journalist and most of all, as a woman, I feel compelled to denounce this mean and disrespectful way of reporting. Why would you even ask someones permission to feature them if youre going to do it in this manner? Cancer or not, you must have known that it would be hurtful! And why does a magazine that promotes healthy living ridicule someone who is actually running a marathon? Personally, I will not buy #SELFmagazine anymore.
