Ive been tagged by my good friend and fellow author Mary Strand to post seven lines from my work in progress. Seven pages in, seven lines down. Here it is: “Amelia could organize squirrels to line dance if she wanted to.” Harper hoped no old bitterness bled through the words. She and Amelia hadn’t lived in the same house for a dozen years, so childhood pettiness had no place in their lives anymore, especially at a time like this. But that old tweak, that little sting of resentment, had sparked the moment Amelia had arrived home—the last sister to return—when even Kelly had said the words Harper had been unable to compete with for thirty years. “Thank goodness Amelia is here!” Kelly laughed, but it held no indication she’d heard anything ungracious in Harper’s words. “Come on. Because she’s so organized, there’ll be something Amelia wants us to do.” Harper simply couldnt help herself. “And what do you think thatll be? Dry off so we dont drip on the pine floors?” (Note: you missed the hero by that much! He showed up on page six and again after line twelve--oh well, luck of the sevens.)
