Ive done my good deed for the day. Helping a confused and lost old - TopicsExpress

Ive done my good deed for the day. Helping a confused and lost old woman in her 70s down an impossible flight of stairs in town. She thought at first I was going to mug her, and said Youre not going to hurt me are you? I replied, No, I wouldnt dream of it, Im asking if you would like some help down these stairs? She was shocked in my response and she shed a tear. I reassured her and said Your going to be fine, where are you going? She handed me a flyer for a Christmas fair in Huddersfield University. Im going there, but I really shouldnt have come on my own... My Carer isnt around on Saturdays. Obviously I was pretty shocked and I asked her if it was ok for me to walk her across the road and walk her all the way to the University. As I walk her closer and closer to the University. She talks to me about loads of stories, at this point shes still weary of me. She has a bell jingling from her bag incase theives mug her, (on which she has been mugged in the past). We approach the reception and I explained to the member of security what happened. And he kindly directed us to where she wanted to be. We enter the building to another kind man, and he directs us to the floor where she needed to be. The moment she walked through onto the room, her face lit up with joy! Her confusion instantly forgotten. She was where she wanted to be. I asked if she was ok and would she mind if I left her? She said thankyou, with a tear in her eyes. you remind me of my late husband when he was alive. at that moment I was going to leave her, but I spoke to other people at the fair, and asked that the security make sure she makes it home safely. I walked away humbled. And thought to myself. If I hadnt offered her any help, she may have been in hospital for frostbite and possibly a broken leg from the fall. It amazed me how many people walked passed her without batting an eyelid. Instead of being angry at others reactions, it was better to take matters into my own hands and show others that we dont live in such a selfish society. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Pretty simple.
