Ive had the occasional person ask me if I can show them a dance - TopicsExpress

Ive had the occasional person ask me if I can show them a dance move or two over the last couple of months or so, and thats quite the compliment. My response has been the same each time - that I more or less make it up as I go along. That said, Im definitely recognizing some patterns in what I do. That said, I dont presume to be able to pass on what I do. What I will mention, however, is something I have learned over the past year when it comes to throwing down the dance moves at a club. The most important thing to shed is that sense of self consciousness, and thats one hell of a challenge to put it mildly. But when you can let that go, you wont have feelings of awkwardness to interfere with not only your movements, but also with your focus on the music itself. Something that may help with finding that courage - as long as you dont end up clobbering people on a regular basis, people generally wont concern themselves if your dancing is less than perfect. Hell I know mine isnt - tons of room to improve. And depending on how crowded the floor gets, I will occasionally give someone a whack by accident, though I really do try and keep this to a minimum. As for some initial ideas for moves? As absurd as this may sound, looking on Youtube for beginner dance work out routines and aerobics might be a perfect start. Heres an example right off the hop - https://youtube/watch?v=mR9td6t5mTc. The music used is totally not my thing at all, but the moves themselves can used for damn near anything thats got a discernible beat. Lastly is the issue of confidence. This really does go hand in hand with being able to let go of that awkwardness, that fear of being judged, and once you can start feeling self confident, the sky is the limit. Confidence will really shine through in your dance moves, and I believe thats when people will start to take notice. And once that happens, it becomes a circle of positive reinforcement.
