Ive spent the entire afternoon reading everything I could find on the issue of the Rams moving and I did it without allowing my personal desire to see a team I grew up with come back home to push me in any bias direction. I learned that for either side to claim Its Over, a Done Deal, SEEE YAAA or anything like that is not a very good idea and has a 50% chance of making you look very silly. I am now of the opinion that St. Louis has a leg up in their effort to keep the team in Missouri, but at a tremendous cost. Kroenke is blessed with a no lose situation all of us would envy. If he makes all the logical decisions and St. Louis comes through with everything its promising, the Rams will definitely stay. Considering my earlier opinion, I almost choked writing that sentence. All of our debates happen because of one thing....nobody can be sure what an eccentric billionaire who is married to another eccentric billionaire will do. No one can be sure that he will do anything logical. This whole thing could be a small matter that he doesnt care about or it could be how eccentric billionaires like to entertain themselves. Two things are for certain. First, if hes crazy enough to take on the league and go to court the L.A. still has a pony in the race. He wont have to pay a relocation fee but he wont get any league help either. If he loses in court it will cost him the billion and a half dollar stadium hes building at this very moment or so it would appear. The increased value a move to L.A. would bring is matched by the money St. Louis has offered to put up. Either way Stan will roll in the dough. The second certainty is that either way, both cities have been had. Theyve been rode hard and put away wet. This will have been the most elaborate use of L.A. as leverage and we fell for it all over again. We should be pissed because they used us while allowing misleading hints to flourish. We werent lied to exactly but we were deceived. If Stan isnt crazy St Louis will keep them but St. Louis got screwed every bit as bad as L.A. They dug way down in the corners of their pockets for every penny they could find and they have some tall orders to fill in the near future. Theyre going to have to spend more money to convince some voters that a football team is more important than road repairs. Theyre also going to have to contend with a large group of business people who eyeball the many brick buildings from the 1800s where the stadium will be who want to make it a quaint shopping district. L.A. will be chomping at the bit in hopes that St. Louis will fail do all these things. Well be waiting because Stan is still holding us over St. Louis head as the bringers of doom. L.A. didnt start this dog fight. Neither did St Louis. A billionaires boys club is playing a game they like.
