I’ll be teaching next week at Mainstream on “No One Here Gets Out Alive.” The title is taken from a book I read back in high school, a biography of Doors frontman Jim Morrison. Actually, the statistics on death are very impressive — one out of every one dies. Evolution is not taking place today, which shows that it never was taking place at all (one of many infallible proofs against it). In fact, the whole world — everyone and everything in it — is devolving. We’re all breaking down and dying, as the world is itself. That’s called the Second Law of Thermodynamics, an inviolable scientific law — and another of those infallible proofs. The Bible says that this world “is passing away, along with the lusts of it” (1st John 2:17). This was the subject of a column I wrote a couple years back called “The Pride of the Yankees,” looking at it through the lens of New York Yankees superstars whose stellar careers were crashing despite all their insistence that things would go on as they always have, and regardless of their best efforts to try to make that happen. Since then, Posada has been forced into retirement, Mariano still has game but is retiring as well because he admits he has “nothing left in the tank,” A-Rod is about to have at least a big part of a huge suspension for steroid use upheld as he ends in absolute ignominy, etc. Even the great Derek Jeter, the Captain, is not immune, his future very much in doubt...
