I’m very excited to share with you what’s been going on the past four weeks; we have experienced a lot of momentum. It seems like we’ve moved past the period of settling in and all the transitions that entails, and now we’ve begun seeing fruit from the seeds we’ve been sowing. Our relationships with our neighbors continue to thrive. For Labor Day, we invited several families from our street over for a cook-out. We had 33 neighbors in our home, eating and playing games. Laura’s one neighbor continues to show much interest in spiritual matters. Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit would draw her. A very rewarding development has been the opportunity for Eric to lead one of the small groups that he’s coaching. Eric introduced to the leader a new way to lead a small group. He liked the idea and asked us to lead their group for two sessions to demonstrate. The group has embraced the new format, and other members are already becoming more engaged. We’ve grown quite connected to this small group, which consists of families with young children. We see great potential for several of these families joining our launch team for the new church. We have been encouraged by new opportunities to connect more with people attending Journey church. Laura joined a ladies’ study and is building relationships there. Eric was involved in helping to plan and lead two Journey neighborhood parties in the region we live. Our own Journey life group will launch this tonight with six families, which is amazing considering that just a few weeks ago no one had signed up and we were discouraged that we may not have a group to lead. And we’ve made great connections as we have continued to host multiple families over for dinner every week. Eight families have joined us for dinner at our home over the past four weeks! Eric has found his weekly meetings with Rob, Journey’s church planting director, to be very helpful. A highlight of Eric’s month was being part of a two-day leadership training event for the staff at Journey. They brought in Mac Lack, an expert in church leadership development. Also over the past two days Eric has participated in the Triangle Church Planting Network training intensive. We were also able to enjoy a trip back to Northern Virginia, where we had organized a reunion of some of the members from the church we had planted there. It was an encouraging time of seeing dear friends and having the opportunity to share the call God has placed on our lives for a new church in Raleigh, and to ask them to partner financially. We want to thank each of you who have given financially to help make all this happen. September marked a significant transition for us. Riverside Church had graciously continued Eric’s salary and health insurance through August 30. With the calendar flip to September came the reality of how dependent we are on the Lord’s provision through your contributions. Thank you. Please PRAY for: -fruitful ministry with our new small group -foundational people who will fill key positions -the first Vision Meeting on October 19th -the salvation of our neighbors -the finances needed to launch the church
