I’ve mentioned these books in the past but, once again, would like to call them to your attention as I believe that they are among the best that have been written on the subject. All were written by friends, Alzheimer’s activists, and fellow caregivers. Richard Morgan and Jane Thibault: No Act of Love Is Ever Wasted. Transformational reading about the spirituality of giving and receiving care. As we so well know, caregivers often go to heroic lengths to help those they love, only to wonder if their efforts are immediately forgotten and does it matter?. Richard and Jane affirm that our acts of love need not be acknowledged to be effective/life changing. They have recently written a Leaders Guide for use with their book in developing programs of continuing care for those with dementia and their loved ones. For more information, please write to Dr. Morgan @ [email protected] Daniel C. & Ellen Woodward Potts: The Broken Jar and A Pocket Guide for the Alzheimers Caregiver. The Broken Jar is a combination of Lesters (Dr. Daniel Potts’ father) watercolors (It was only after his diagnosis that he began to paint.) and Dannys poetry. It is a testimony to the resilience of the human spirit and a reminder that nothing - neither physical nor cognitive impairment - can dim the light of the soul. A Pocket Guide belongs on the nightstand of every caregiver, in every doctors office, and - for training purposes - in every residential care facility in our nation. Period. Max Wallack: Why Did Grandma Put Her Underwear in the Refrigerator? A wonderful way to talk to children about dementia and give them the necessary tools and encouragement to continue a loving relationship with someone who is losing their memories and may be acting in ways that are frightening or embarrassing to a child. It is now in 8 languages with more to come!
