Jennifer Greene Johnson shares: I would like to share this for all the Autism parents struggling out there- For the past several months I have been fighting hard to get my son the proper help at school, the proper therapy privately, trying to maintain the best relationships wherever we go, making educated decisions on tablets, swings, weighted blankets....the list just goes on and on. All this while also managing challenging behaviors and extra needs. We ALL fight this battle on a daily basis. We get stressed, we get bogged down in it all. Today my 6 yr old had his first school field trip which I was fortunate enough to tag along on. This day turned out to be just the blessing I needed. I was able to walk a few steps behind and just observe for a few minutes how happy and in the moment he was. He was interested in things that just a yr or 2 ago he wouldnt have been, he was more engaged with the other children.....he was just HAPPY! And very well behaved. By the end of the day I had 2 different teachers come to me and tell me what a fabulous child he is becoming and what an amazing job I was doing. Ive said all the above to say this; its all worth it. Its so worth the pain, heartache, frustration and sleepless nights when you get to these few, but huge moments. That second you see your child shine brighter than ever before. So keep your heads up and stay strong. That shining moment is right around the corner God bless you all and your beautiful children!
