Johannesburg, South Africa, 13 November 2014 - The fourth annual Standard Bank People’s Wheels Awards was held this morning, at the Montecasino Ballroom in Fourways, Johannesburg. The Aston Martin Rapide S was a finalist in the Super Luxury car category with the four-door sports car. The model has been crowned winner in this category for the past 3 years, so every-one was keen to see if it could make it four in a row. General Manager Aston Martin South Africa, Rens Rademeyer was quietly confident that this could be achieved due to the improvements that have been made to the 2015 Rapide S. “It certainly is fit to wear the Super Luxury car crown”, smiled Rens. Turns out the confidence was not misplaced because the 2015 Aston Martin Rapide S has been crowned the Super Luxury Car of the Year for 2015. “It is so exciting to see one of our cars win an award that is decided upon by the people – it holds a lot of impact. After all they are the ones that experience the cars and listen to the talk on the ground, a more impactful judging panel will be hard to find” said Rademeyer. Some of the improvements of the four door sports car include a new rear mid-mounted, ‘Touchtronic III’, eight-speed gearbox with electronic shift-by-wire control system. The new BOSCH engine management system pushes out a max power of 411 kW (560 PS/552 bhp) at 6650 rpm with a max torque of 630 Nm (465 lb ft) at 5500 rpm. The Rapide S will reach a max speed of 327 km/h and will do 0 – 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds. “We were up against some stiff competition, the likes of the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, Ferrari F12 & FF and the Rolls Royce Ghost & Phantom, a spectacular line –up of cars, making us proud to be in the same group as them.
