Join us on Sunday the 28th for a special worship service. A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a service celebrating the birth of Jesus through scripture and song. The format was first used by Edward Benson, who later became Archbishop of Canterbury, for Christmas Eve worship in 1880. Tradition says that he organized a 10:00 p.m. service on Christmas Eve in a temporary wooden structure and that the purpose of the service was to keep men out of the pubs. The original liturgy has since been adapted and used by other churches all over the world. The best-known version is from Kings College, Cambridge, England. They have used this worship service on Christmas Eve every year since 1918. FUMC will use the Lessons and Carols format for worship at all services on Sunday, December 28. Please come for this meaningful and joyful celebration of Christmas. Sunday, the 28th is also one of our upcoming Family Worship Sundays. There will be no children’s Faith Journey Sunday School classes on that day so that children may worship with their parents and to give our Sunday School teachers a day off from teaching. And….the last Sunday of the month is always Casual Sunday. We typically wear our FUMC t-shirts or other casual clothing. But, this year it is Christmas sweater day. So, wear your ugly Christmas sweater, or your pretty Christmas sweater- we won’t ask which one you’re wearing! See you in church on December 28.
