Judges 6:27-40 In this story we read about Gideon tearing down the alter of the false god Baal at night. In ancient times, people worshipped false gods and false gods were all over the place. Gideon was called to do this because first these false gods needed to be dealt away with so that the people can see and worship the true and living God Yahweh. Israel was told not to worship other gods: Leviticus 26:1; “‘Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the LORD your God.” But we see how far, here in this story, Israel has turned away from God. This is the same we find today, we see false gods everywhere, even in our very own communities. People have strayed far from God. We even may have strayed from God and need to get right with God; we need to know the Truth of God through Christ Jesus. 1 John 5:20; “We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” Like Gideon, we need to tear down false gods and teachings in order to get our hearts right so that we can serve the true God Yahweh. Then we can tell others about Jesus, using the gifts God has given us.
