Just Enough to Get By † One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? Luke 16:10–12 ESV It was a cold day and the wind coming in off the ocean caused the paint in our buckets to have small slivers of ice. I was a new employee at this painting company and we were painting a condominium right on the waterfront in the off season. I worked really hard, partly to just keep warm, and the rest because I try and do everything as unto the Lord: wholeheartedly. After a while the foreman came to me and in hushed tone, explained that I was making the rest of the crew look bad. They were doing just enough to get by… As you can probably guess, within a month I was the foreman. In time, God gave me my own business. How you behave at work directly reflects on the God that you serve. Be faithful in what God has given you. Work hard at it. There will be a reward. Do not do just enough to get by.
