Just finished making my own camera bag insert! YES! It seems like Im always looking for lightweight camera bags to hold my stuff because of issues with my neck and back (some of you may be the same way - thus, Im sharing my story). My standard bag is an Ape Case thats nice and heavy duty but is heavy (with minimized gear inside its at least 13 pounds). So when I went out to take pictures I always asked myself, what can I take out of this bag to ease my load? (since I still have to account for the weight of my tripod too). A while back I found a review for a Patagonia bag that weighs only 0.7 ounces. Unfortunately, it does not have any padding to protect my gear. Make-shift padding (ie: Domke protective wrap or other bag inserts) were not working because they either didnt fit the dimensions I needed or things would shift around so I would have to dig around to find what I wanted. I could have kept looking for an insert that mostly fit my needs in size and inserts OR make my own (15L x 10w x 7h). And thats just what I did - reducing the gear weight to only 9 pounds (trust me, 4 pounds is a HUGE difference when youre walking/hiking around all day - of course, even less with the camera out which is 5 pounds of that weight). Bonus - its really kind of pretty/feminine - just for me. Here is a link for the Patagonia bag (or just Google for other online shops possibly cheaper) and use Pinterest or Google search for tips on making the insert. Note: I did not use dimensions others specified. Instead, I placed my gear on a piece of foam to determine what size cut to make so it would fit my camera and gears specifications. Then just sew and/or use a glue gun to assemble (I used both). patagonia/us/product/lightweight-travel-courier-shoulder-bag?p=48812-0 If you are curious as to what I mean when I say minimized gear in the bag, this includes the following: Canon 6D with battery grip Canon 24-70 F/2.8L Canon 100 F/2.8L Extra batteries Extra memory cards Cable release ND and circular polarizing filters for both Colorchecker Passport Misc (lens cloth, mints, phone, keychain flashlight, etc - if in the woods I also carry a small compass/whistle for emergencies and sometimes bear mace but those arent in the bag so they dont really count towards the weight)
