Just had this discussion last night . .. and almost daily with friends, who yell at me, for not always wearing my helmet. So, I dont agree with everything in the article, but some interesting research, especially about normalizing biking to increase safety. Few European daily riders wear helmets and the decline of bikers in Australia due to new mandatory helmet laws is a cautionary example . . . So, stop yelling at me, or at least so loudly . . . If you prefer wearing a helmet, go ahead. But this is an argument for why you shouldnt feel guilty if you dont feel like wearing one. And its an even stronger argument for opposing mandatory helmet laws, like the one proposed in Maryland last year. Lets stop thinking of helmets as a critical protection against the risky activity of biking. Lets start thinking of biking as a normal, safe activity, like walking — and helmets as an optional accessory for people who are really into it. vox/2014/5/16/5720762/stop-forcing-people-to-wear-bike-helmets
