Just like many of you, I have also watched with dismay, the - TopicsExpress

Just like many of you, I have also watched with dismay, the sermons of the Badibunka fellow called Dr Ceesay, justifying dictatorship as a blessing from Allah (subhanahu wa tala)! If you ask me, I will promise you one thing, and that is, this Dr fellow will change his thesis to the contrary once Dictator Jammeh is flushed out of power. His topic was not as complex as it took him to explain in the video and didnt need a million quotes to justify such a simple topic, if only he was impartial, fair, just, faithful and truthful! For the Doctor in his long lecture failed to deal with the issue of oppression or gods opposition to oppression. Unless I missed that part, but you can correct me on that. However, even if he had dealt with oppression, I am of the view that he did not give it the weight it deserved in his balancing exercise of the requirement or obligation on us to obey the laws of our land and the requirements or obligations on our leaders not to oppress us! These were the flaws, I think, had aligned the Badibunka Doctors thesis non-centred but somehow one sided! You know Badibu has many Doctors, however this one, is a Doctor. they definitely need to keep away from the mic and camera! Despite my little knowledge of the Quran, I am versed enough to know that god detested oppression and oppressive leaders. He has said it in one or many verses of the Quran that oppression is worse than death. In fact, if anyone had watched the film about prophet Muhammad (pbuh), called The Messenger, they will recollect the scene where this particular verse was recited. It was this verse that led to the Muslims waging of Badr war (if Im wrong please correct me) against the oppressing Meccans at the time. In the film the verse was recited by Zaid along the following lines, (please its not the exact quote by verbatim, but just for your recollection): fight in the name of god, fight! Fight against persecution, for persecution is worse than death, etc! Of cause yes, god wants us to respect and obey laws of our lands and obey the commands of our leaders. This is obvious in Shahih Hadiths, but there is many verses and stories against bad leaders in the Quran, from the Pharoahs to Nimrods, to prove gods wrath against oppression and dictatorship! Reconciling the two, one can only best deduct to the following reasonable conclusion, and that is this, god wants us to obey the laws of our lands to attain peaceful co-existence in those lands under the command of one or many leaders. However, that should never be usurped by any leader or propagandist to justify oppression of gods people! Oppression is strongly condemned by god and we dont need a Doctor of Islam to lecture us of the contrary!!! Furthermore being in opposition to the state in The Gambia is still part of the obedience to the laws of The Gambia, as the constitution of The Gambia conferred and sanctioned such rights to its citizens to form parties and challenge the government whenever elections are organised by the IEC. It also sanctioned the rights of its citizens to question their leaders about how they are governed. In the reigns of the righteous Caliphs of Islam, these were rights respected of their subjects!!! The above is indeed a public knowledge, and we dont need a Badibu Ceesay Kundanka Doctor to educate us of the contrary in a 2hrs marathon dribbling!!!
