Just spent an enjoyable, if useless, half hour inventing new Liffs - TopicsExpress

Just spent an enjoyable, if useless, half hour inventing new Liffs for the afterliff website. If anyone hasnt read Douglas Adams the Meaning of Liff Id highly recommend it for a giggle. For those who dont know, Liffs are street and town names that are lying uselessly around on signposts when they could be better assigned to definitions that currently lack words. Heres the ones I submitted to the website. Just for fun. Indooroopilly (suburb in Brisbane, Australia) - the uncomfortable feeling that you ought to go outside because its a beautiful day but you end up staying in an watching abysmal daytime tv. Kenmore (suburb in Brisbane, Australia) - the sudden and annoying realisation that, no matter how many Doctorates you have on the subject, the person youre talking to will always pretend they already knew what youre about to tell them. Fig Tree Pocket - (suburb in Brisbane, Australia) - The place you find lost items when not looking for them any more. For example the phone number, for the cute guy you met a month ago, that turns up in the jacket you havent worn in ten years; the kitchen drawer that youve inspected closely five times already. Sumner (suburb in Brisbane, Australia) - the indecisiveness you feel about when to put your seasonal clothing away; resulting in a growing pile of clothing on the floor of your cupboard. Kangaroo Point (suburb of Brisbane, Australia) - the amusingly awed, thrilled expression used by tourists when spotting the wildlife or scenery of a country which, to the natives, is dull and commonplace. Woolloongabba (suburb of Brisbane, Australia) - the inability of some people to stop talking about an incredibly dull subject, or to see that their listeners have stopped hearing, no matter how bored or dead their audience looks. Woolloomooloo - (suburb of Sydney, Australia) - the inability to stop spelling a word once youve started. as in: banananana or diarrrhoeaea (with thanks to Terry Pratchett for the idea); also: to add random letters into a word in a spelling test, then look at the result and be unsure which version was correct, if any.
