Just wanted to point out that yes male police officers and first responders need to be trained in how to respond to a rape victim as well as be trained in trauma based models of victim responses. However, female officers can be just as biased and entrenched in ideologies of rape culture. Rehtaehs case was handled by a female police officer. Her treatment towards me any time i raised questions asked regarding Raes case and the handling of the case was one of disdain and belittlement. Instead of trying to help a family torn in pieces she chose to act defensive and tell me that she didnt have to tell me anything when asking about progress etc.
