Just watched the trailer for Snowpiercer, and I think it is an incredibly stupid idea for a movie. I get the social commentary part of it, but it is still stupid. Even if they did manage to create a perpetual motion, ie over unity, engine capable of moving a train for a very long time without any outside fuel, which would be quite similar to the nuclear powered submarines and carriers we use now, there is still No Way that train could operate continuously for 18+ years without incident. Parts wear out and break. Tracks need to be maintained and replaced. Storms, rock slides, floods, avalanches, volcanic eruptions, earth quakes, etc. would ALL have an effect on the tracks and the train. A far better idea, to save humanity, would be to build a City, maybe underground, maybe in the depths of the ocean, maybe in a space station or really huge space ship. The society should be redesigned, because what we have now, around the world, is just not going to work in a cramped space designed to save the human race from extinction, and isnt working very well right now. I think the Best solution is to live in a Venus Project city, a Resource Based economy, or a Gift Economy. I say get rid of money, and the dichotomy of the haves and have nots. Get rid of the classes of people, everyone is just people. Everyone has skills, abilities, and knowledge to contribute to a thriving society.
