Ka: The men who attacked the Dojo earlier on were not weak in their martial arts. The person who killed them….that man… KS: He used a technique that is similar to witchcraft (Hypnosis?) Ka: Hmm… KS: Shin-no-ippo (went on further to name the origins of Shin-no-ippo) Ka: Shin-no-ippo KS: People are weaker (mentally) than they really are. If they think that they are sick, they feel sick. If they think that that they cannot breathe, they suffocate. The Shin-no-ippo practitioner makes use of human weakness (the opponent’s mental/heart weakness) to paralyze him and initiate an attack from there. Ka: Heart (human/mental) weakness….. KS: The key is to have a strong heart (I don’t think its cardiac fitness he is talking about so I assume its about having be strong or unwavering mentality). If you can be strong, you will not be defeated by Shin-no-ippo Ka: I want to be strong. In the days of the Bakumatsu (civil war), the road(s) was dark at night. (It was an age of darkness). Ka: I am thinking that in this new era, Kenjutsu can be used to pave a new way (for the nation). Sounds like a naïve joke right? KS: Even if it is a naïve joke, it’s still good isn’t it? To pave a new way with the sword… It’s well said. If this really happens one day, he who carries the sword will cease to suffer.
