Karla requests, I am looking for ideas. It is not that I want to - TopicsExpress

Karla requests, I am looking for ideas. It is not that I want to push my child, but there are things that she says she wants to do, and things that I know she has potential for that she (we, she only just turned 8) has stopped pushing herself to learn. Its almost like she really loved advancing, until she was grade advanced and now she just doesnt want to learn at her own speed. I know it hurt her a bit to have to leave her friends in the other grade, but she has had a full year to get over it. She has many friends that are non-achievers and seems to be very happy taking on their behaviors. So, I see a change in her, and it is not for the better. I have always thought that it was great to have children who were smart who reached out to the kids who may be struggling, but I honestly feel like these kids are slowing her down. She says that she doesnt want to make them feel bad and she doesnt want to be a celebrity with everyone asking her questions all the time. I am also not sure why she made friends with this group of girls instead of the achievers, I think it has a lot to do with social maturity. However, the boys she is friends with I think are achievers, but that still does not motivate her. What I am looking for is suggestions on how to enrich her school experiences to get her back to her learning speed. She doesnt want me to school her on top of going to school, but she wants to learn a language and I am not doing her any favors by not encouraging her to take her math concepts from school into the next level.
