Kathryn asks, Im looking for some resources on the social - TopicsExpress

Kathryn asks, Im looking for some resources on the social emotional health and growth of young gifted children, and it seems this info is more difficult to find. My son turned 5 this summer and began full-day kindergarten this fall, which was a pretty big adjustment for him. In the past month, hes been added to pull-outs with the gifted educators in most subjects, and in all of those he is being accelerated so he is working with the gifted older children. Of course, Im pleased that our school is willing to provide so much to him academically, but as a mom, I am concerned about his well-being, and interested to be sure that he continues to grow as a person as well, so Im searching out more info. He is quite stubborn and very persistent about what he thinks he should be able to do, and once he has decided, there is no compromise. It is all or nothing and weve seen some pretty intense 30 min + tantrums. He has always been this way, and historically was difficult to put in time-out because of the stubbornness. Fortunately, his teachers have assured me all is well at school and he is wonderful! Im interested in finding some info to help us guide him and to figure out if there is any more we can do with respect to his willingness to compromise and see all directions and points of view. He is intense, and sometimes the answer is simply no. I should add, Im pretty confident that he doesnt have any type of learning disabilities, and he is a very social little boy and is very well liked in every classroom he has been in, particularly by the girls! TIA
